Welcome!

Amid the current economic crises, farmers and fisherfolk across the Americas are embracing a new political and economic regime to feed and strengthen their communities.

In the spring of 2010, Andrianna Natsoulas began a research journey to capture the stories of people working towards and living a just and sustainable food system. With their stories she is creating a book, called Food Voices: Stories of the Food Sovereignty Movement.

Farmers and fisherfolk throughout the Americas contribute to Food Voices. They represent indigenous peoples, urban farmers and migrant workers. They are men and women, young and old. Not only is Andrianna recording their stories, but she is also capturing their images with the help of local photographers.

Food Voices spans the Americas - from Canada to Brazil. Dairy farmers from Wisconsin, grass fed cattle ranchers in Ohio and New York, urban farmers of Detroit and Chicago started the compilation. In the coming months, Andrianna will head south to meet with Ecuadorian farmers, Venezuelan fishing communities and landless workers of Brazil. She will then document advances towards food sovereignty in Washington, California, Louisiana, Florida, Maine and Nova Scotia. She will set up meetings with Haitians and Cubans to discuss food sovereignty on island nations.

The result will be a collection of testimonies, stories, and meanings of food sovereignty along with necessary resources to actualize it in any community. To follow the journey, please follow her blog.
